Support

How can you support the TCHK Mission?

Our mission here at The Curly Haired Keeper centers entirely around the animals. Our goal is to:

  • Elevate the husbandry standards of the animals that we keep
  • Provide exceptional enrichment standards for the animals that we breed and sell
  • Dispell common myths and educate the public on how incredible reptiles are as animals and as pets

If you would like to be supportive of those goals, this page lists the full gambit of ways (big and small) that you can show your support of that mission.

1. Hang out on our Instagram

If you enjoy our content, interacting with us on Instagram is a great way to show some love! Give us a follow, like & comment, or better still — share with a friend. The TCHK community on Insta has been getting bigger and and more engaged and we love hanging out with you all!

2. Join the TCHK Patreon Community

Our patrons (or Curly Cues as we like to call them!) get a variety of benefits including:

  • An exclusive weekly “Coffee and Snakes” live stream chat where we get more detailed about current hot topics (both in our own animal family and the reptile industry at large)
  • Access to schedule a snake handling or enclosure building consults 1-on-1 with Abby (1 of each per month!)
  • 5% off neonates that we produce
  • 25% off all TCHK Logo Merch
  • Exclusive updates about clutches currently being incubated and first look at new babies when they hatch
  • Sneak peeks at our new tub-free neonate setups
  • Private discussion threads with the rest of the Curly Cues!

Our patreon is only a $7/month membership and is a great way to connect with us and the amazing TCHK community!

3. Book an Educational Event!

We can do educational events

  • Online or in person
  • For reptile keepers who want to know more or people outside the hobby who want to learn the basics
  • Small events like birthday parties or larger events like street fairs

Tell us about your event and we can tell us how we can help you level it up by inviting some scaly friends!

4. Pick up some TCHK Logo Merch!

We may be a little biased, but we think the art that our good buddy Adler at The A/E Foundary made for our logo is just flippin’ gorgeous! We do sometimes give out some logo swag to our Patreon community, but feel free to head over to the TCHK merch store to grab a hoodie, t-shirt or hat to wear to your next expo! Seeing our friends and fans repping us out in the wild means an awful lot — we know you wouldn’t wear our logo if you didn’t believe in what we do!

5. Use our Affiliate Codes and Get a Discount!

Right now, we have affiliate codes with two brands in the reptile industry that we absolutely love, trust and endorse.

Toad RanchUse code TCHK20 for $20 any Toad Ranch order of $200+!

Nearly every enclosure we have (other than a few used ones we picked up in a pinch) were made by Toad Ranch.  Why? Because theyr’re gorgeous in our home, they’re extremely well made and easy to put together, they have dozens of enrichment options and — most importantly — because their exceptional, long-lasting quality keeps our animals safe, healthy and happy.

Cold Blooded CaffieneUse code TCHK10 for 10% off orders!

Coffee is a favorite beverage in the TCHK household, so we know good coffee when we see it. We met the team at Cold Blooded Caffiene at the NARBC Tinley Park show and probably had a dozen cups of their coffee that weekend. It’s roasted exceptionally well in small batches with a roasted-on date on the bag so you know how fresh it is. And maybe even better, 5% of every bag you buy supports wildlife conservation efforts in coffee producing countries — which happen to be home to some of our favorite species of reptiles.

6. Pick up Reptile Supplies from our Amazon Storefront!

From substrate to temp & humidity monitors to enrichment materials to travel tubs, keeping reptiles means you need to have the right tools and supplies.  In our time keeping animals, we’ve tried a lot of different products and, unfortunately, have thrown more than a few of them out b/c they just weren’t any good.
BUT! Lucky you, we put the products that DO work well all in one easy-to-find place for you right here on our Amazon Storefront! Feel free to ask us why we’ve chosen these products (Amazon doesn’t let us add a lot of commentary), and you’ll find that every product on this list has been put through its paces and we endorse it as a quality product. From the infra-red temp gun that is much more accurate than anything you can get in a hardware store, to wifi thermo-hygrometers, to smart power strips that won’t drop off your network randomly, we promise this is the good stuff!

7. Apply for a Hatchling!

There are a few things we want to do a little differently in our breeding program here to see how much impact they can have on neonates.  Those things are:

  1. Improved husbandry standards – all of our animals will be kept in 2 foot tall tanks (no racks) with UV A&B basking spots, seasonal light cycling, multi-level climbing enrichment, radiant heat and full bioactive setup (unless specific animals have health reasons why bioactive is non-viable)
  2. High amounts of socialization – we’re keeping our breeding program to a small scale so that we only ever have the amount of animals in our care that we can give exceptional attention to — not just during once or twice a week cleanings. In between hatching and when they go to their forever home, we’ll be giving our hatchlings huge amounts of socialization to get them used to hanging out with their people!
  3. Breeding for temperament (not just morph) – if you compare reptile breeding to dog breeding, it may seem like reptiles are bred for looks (morph, locality, etc) rather than temperament and docility. Well we think we can do both! So our breeding choices (including how we chose the wonderful animals already in our care) will all take behavior into account to see if we can make the best pets who you will love hanging out with.

If this breeding mentality & ethos is something that interests, you please feel free to apply for a hatchling for current or future clutches!
